A competitive, cost-efficient automotive industry in Norway sounds like a contradiction. Some economists have stated that manufacturing in countries like Norway has no future what so ever, based on the fierce competition from low-cost countries and international competitors. Still, the Norwegian automotive industry is among the leading partners in the global market of light weight materials and electronics, and is a considerable driving force of industrial development in Norway.
We expect also 2009 to be low on volumes due to the effects of the international financial crisis, but the last ten years Norwegian manufacturers of automotive components has been thriving, and with important customers like Audi, Volvo and Toyota.
The Norwegian companies also contribute considerably with assembling competence for a more efficient product and production development. The companies have a substantial and competitive production in Norway, however the growth is depending on subsidiary and/or satellite companies located outside Norway.
